Shocking video depicts the moment when a deranged man with a pole destroys a Korean-owned supermarket in North Carolina while shouting racist comments, according to reports.
Mark Sung, whose family owns the Charlotte store, said the brute who destroyed their business was allegedly hired by a customer who had been banned from the store.
“As he was [trashing the shop], he said racist insults, swore at us, threatened us, ”said Sung. And the guy we banned eventually came into the store, cheered him on, and yelled, ‘That’s what you get, that’s what you get! Go back to your country! ‘
The footage from the Plaza Sundries last week shows the culprit taking down a display stand before starting to swing the metal pole at the glass with refrigerated displays in the store.
Suspect Xavier Rashee Woody-Silas, 24, is now facing a slew of allegations of the incident, including theft with a dangerous weapon, communicating threats and disorderly behavior, the Charlotte Area Transit System said on Twitter.
The incident took place Tuesday at the Charlotte Transportation Center, where the store is located in downtown Charlotte, authorities say.
“The suspect has also been banned from all CATS facilities and services,” the agency’s statement said. “CAT has verified that G4S has increased the presence of officers at the CTC.”
According to WBTV-News, the attack caused more than $ 9,000 in damage.
Sung said the family had previously been targeted because of their Asian-American ancestry – and said his mother suffered the latest attack particularly harshly.
‘She just says,’ What’s the point? “he said.” “Why am I treated like bullshit every day?” We just want to be left alone.
“It’s easy for people to attack us because we are the minority,” added Sung. “I’ve dealt with racism all my life here in Charlotte, so it’s nothing new.”
But the family has also received tremendous support.
According to ABC News, more than $ 30,000 was raised through a GoFundMe page to help the family pay for the damages.
Other supporters showed up in person, including a woman who walked into the store with soup for the family, a pizza delivery boy who brought them five pies, and a local doctor who came by to issue a check to cover their expenses.
The US has recently seen a spike in anti-Asian attacks.
