The Treasury Department is on the verge of meeting the target of $ 600 economic stimulus payments to citizens, as announced by the bureau’s leaders through a virtual conference.
Finance Minister Francisco Parés Alicea reported that $ 1,445,532,770 has been disbursed to 1,752,427 families so far.
The agency’s undersecretary, Ángel Pantoja Rodríguez, pointed out that they already achieved the above figure and assured they understood that “we have met the expectations we had for this second round of payments.”
Parés Alicea also indicated that 135,708 checks have been produced, the vast majority of which have already been sent and others awaiting issuance this week.
People who have not received the payment for various reasons may get a second chance to claim it while filing the tax return for the year 2020.
“We have fulfilled and we are already in that final phase and these two days for the Treasury Department will be very important,” said Parés.
He added that although this second federal incentive has been distributed with the utmost care, there is still an inventory of 30,525 unfilled deposits at this final stage as they were rejected by the banks.
The agency turned to Friday to update the bill and receive payment.
