WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – People are ready to get off the ride called Wichita’s earthquake epidemic.
According to the Kansas Geological Survey, multiple earthquakes hit the area in the span of 12 hours on Sunday.
KGS senior scientist Rick Miller says it’s just a natural occurrence.
“Could relate this to a mechanic trying to loosen a bolt, he’s really, really tight, he pulls, pulls and pulls and soon he’s popping,” Miller said. “That’s kind of what we’re going on here is the Earth is squeezing and pushing and pulling itself into the deep underground.”
The two most recent earthquakes were the strongest and the weakest of the day.
The KGS measured the strongest with a magnitude of 4.0, which hit Eastborough at 6:08 PM. The weakest was reported by the USGS, measured at a magnitude of 1.8, which shook Bel Aire at 10:01 PM.
