The Shadow and Bone trailer has been released and is coming to Netflix in April

Shadow and bone, the TV adaptation of Leigh Bardugo’s best-selling YA fantasy novels, will hit Netflix in April. The first teaser trailer, released Thursday, reveals Morozova’s deer, an ancient and magical creature that roams the wilderness of Ravaka.

Shadow and bone not only follows the events of the first three Grishaverse books, but also includes new stories for characters in the spinoff duology. The first three books take place in the Russian-inspired fictional land of Ravka, haunted by tangible darkness that splits the country in two. It follows Sun Summoner Alina Starkov (played by Jessie Mei Lin on the show), who can manipulate light. The Six of Crows duology, meanwhile, takes place in a very different country, and is less “saving the world from eternal darkness” and more “dangerous robberies”.

“The books are all arranged chronologically, so we’re not technically getting to the events in the Six of Crows books until after the Shadow and Bone books are over,” showrunner Eric Heisserer told Netflix. So what Leigh and I had to do was basically make up prequel stories for the main Six of Crows characters this season – Kaz, Inej and Jesper – to match what’s happening in the Shadow and Bone storyline. That has been the hard work. “
