The return of Domingo Germán puts Yankees teammates in a difficult position: The Athletic

In baseball, there is typically a culture where you keep your head down and your mouth shut. Players prefer to keep their interpersonal dramas within the confines of the clubhouse whenever possible. So it was a rare exception when Yankees-reliever Zack Britton answered a question about his teammate, Domingo Germán, with something other than a simple deflection.

“Sometimes you can’t determine who your teammates are,” Britton said. “That’s the situation.”

Britton is an MLBPA representative for the team and one of the few pitchers left of the 2019 Yankees staff.

Germán returns this spring after being away from MLB for nearly 18 months following an 81-game suspension under the league’s domestic violence policy. He served 18 games at the end of the 2019 season and then missed the entire 2020 shortened season while taking his 63 remaining …
