Almost 32 years after he was assassinated in a political event in Soacha, the investigation into the murder of former presidential candidate Luis Carlos Galán, which took place in August 1989, is still rife.
This week It was known that General (r) Carlos Enrique Rodríguez González was involved in the criminal trial of the prosecution and called for an investigation, who was called as a witness at the time to explain how the operation had gone, which ended with the arrest of a number of people who were initially charged with participating in the events, but it later turned out that they had nothing to do with it.
But the involvement of General (r) Rodríguez González isn’t the only new evidence the prosecution is analyzing in the case.

The accusing body has also opened an investigation to the Major (r) José Fernando Reyes Calvache Reyes, who was the head of the Sijín de la Policia in Cundinamarca at the time of Galán’s assassination.
Calvache is accused of being the co-author of a conspiracy to commit a crime and murder for terrorist purposes against the former presidential candidate, the bodyguard Santiago Cuervo, the councilor Julio César Peñaloza Sánchez, and the attempted murder of the bodyguard Pedro Nel Angulo.
Although an investigation against the oldest was closed in 2017, the Public Prosecution Service reversed that decision in August 2020 and is now investigating him again and now. He called him on for this investigation, which was scheduled for March 19 this year at 9 a.m. m.

On the other hand, it was also asked to expand the free version of Colonel (r) Hernando Arciniegas Sánchez, who was the head of Dijín’s narcotics department at the time. Initially, the prosecution opened an investigation, but in 2017 it was ruled that there were no grounds for continuing the investigation into him for participating in the operations that led to the arrest and jail time of 5 innocent people who attempted the investigation to deduce.
In 2020, the prosecutor said that although it was said at first instance that the colonel had committed the above acts under duress and driven by insurmountable fear of being fired by the police, No arguments were given as to how that conclusion had been reached or what evidence was assessed to make that claim, for which he annulled the decision closing the investigation against him.
That is why the Public Prosecution Service called on 16 and 17 February 2021 at 9 a.m. to expand the free version.
It was also ordered to expand the statement by Colonel Norberto Peláez Restrepo, who was deputy director of the Dijín at the time of the events and who was also charged with participating in the arrest of the innocent, to divert the trial . This statement will be forthcoming on February 18th.
In addition, the accusing entity ordered that it be established through investigative work who served as the secretary of the Dijín Narcotics Section in August 1989.

On the other hand, the prosecution also ordered the extension of the statement of Norberto Murillo Chalarca and Pedro Telmo Zambrano Delgado, both of whom were part of the group of 5 innocent people who were being held for the events at the time.
Murillo and Zambrano spent three years in prison, charged with participating in Galán’s crime, until the prosecution ordered their release in 1992.
For the murder of Luis Carlos Galán, former senator and former minister Alberto Santofimio Botero, so far the only politician to be tried and convicted in this case, was sentenced to 24 years in prison.
In March 2020, Santofimio was released on parole after paying most of his imprisonment.
