“I present myself to you so that there are no rumors or misunderstandings. I’m fine, although I have to rest. Now I have prepared myself to communicate with you,” said the president in a video he posted on networks.
“I still have covid, but the doctors tell me the critical phase is already over,” he added.
After his contamination and subsequent incarceration, rumors circulated on social networks stating that the president had a neurological problem and so he did not show himself in public.
In his speech, the president thanked the leaders of other countries for showing their solidarity and affection, in addition to that of representatives of Mexican business, workers, academics, friends “and even political opponents.”
“Thank you very much for the way you are speaking about my illness,” he said.
The president said that despite his illness, he has worked and was “aware of all public affairs and very aware of the pandemic.”
“We are trying to continue and strengthen the same strategy,” he said.
He insisted that his administration has not “been outdone by the circumstances and that we have been able to assist everyone” and also said he is resolving the issue of vaccines.
“Most importantly, it gives us the assurance that this terrible pandemic will not continue to cause damage,” he said.
López Obrador has been isolated since last Sunday, he announced his covid-19 infection and his last public image was from Monday, January 25, when he uploaded a photo in his office to his social media profiles after a phone call with his Russian counterpart.
