The Powerpuff Girls grew up in the first picture of the live-action TV series

The Powerpuff Girls look very much like young women of content in the first official photo of The CW’s live-action pilot, now filming in Atlanta.

While unofficial, BTS photos have been circulating on social media, showing the title trio in their expected “ uniforms, ” but those looks only appear in flashbacks to their teenage years. The cast photo, shown in full below, captures their adult selves, which are the focus of the pilot.

As previously announced, Agents of SHIELDChloe Bennett plays Blossom Utonium, a spirited, conscientious Little-Miss-Perfect whose repressed childhood superhero trauma has left her feeling anxious and withdrawn. That said, she strives to become a leader again – but this time on her own terms.

DescendantsDove Cameron plays Bubbles Utonium, whose loving nature ‘won America’s hearts’ when she was a child. And while she still sparkles as an adult, Bubbles’ charming exterior hides an unexpected toughness and humor. She’s now initially more interested in reclaiming her fame than saving the world, but she might surprise us and herself.

Finally, Broadway actress Yana Perrault plays Buttercup Utonium, The Powerpuff Girls’ “rebellious badass” in their heyday – though she’s more sensitive than her tough looks suggest. Buttercup has spent her adulthood trying to get rid of her Powerpuff Girl identity and live an anonymous life.

Based on the original Cartoon Network animated series and characters created by Craig McCracken, the future CW series finds the formerly minor superheroes as disillusioned twenties who resent losing their childhood to crime fighting. Will they agree to reunite now that the world needs them more than ever?
