Authorities are investigating another sighting of a jetpack in the Los Angeles area. Sling Pilot Academy, a flight school in Torrance, posted images to Instagram of the possible jetpack spotted off the coast of the Palos Verdes peninsula, CBS Los Angeles reports.
“Video captured by Sling Pilot Academy flight instructor on a flight about 3,000 ‘near Palos Verdes south of Los Angeles,” read the caption. Catalina Island is in the background. The video appears to show a jetpack, but it could also be a drone or some other object. If it’s a ‘man in a jetpack’, it remains to be seen whether it is a legal test flight (jet packs are real – there’s a manufacturer near Los Angeles) or related to the jetpack sightings near LAX that recently disrupted air traffic. “
An FBI official told the LA Times, “We are aware of it and will continue to investigate the reports.”
According to the Times, the sighting took place Monday.
This is the third alleged sighting of a jetpack in recent months. On October 14, a flight crew on board a China Airlines flight saw what appeared to be a person flying a jetpack as they descended to LAX.
The FAA is too examine an observation on August 30 in the Cudahy and South Gate areas.
“The FAA has taken seriously the sighting reports it has received and has worked closely with the FBI to investigate them,” the agency said in a statement to the Times. However, the FAA has not been able to validate the reports.
