The other cases of alleged misalignments in Liga MX

America is embroiled in a somewhat rare controversy in football, but it does happen

Cruz Azul, Toluca, Puebla, Dorados, are some of the teams that, like America, are in the midst of controversy over alleged misalignments. In most cases the clubs have been successful, but sanctions have been enacted.

In America’s case, the referee is judged, as published by the Disciplinary Commission, and the Eagles can come out with the three points they won in the game against Atlas.

Cruz Azul (closure 2007)

Cruz Azul lost a semi-final to Pachuca in the Clausura 2007, due to the fact that Salvador Carmona, a player suspended for doping for life, was in line. Decio de María, then Secretary General of the Mexican Football Association, made mention of the decision.

Cruz Azul (closure 2013)

Toluca claimed an incorrect line-up from Cruz Azul, due to La Machine Celeste signing midfielder Alan Vidal, but Jesús Lara was on the bench. The Scarlet lost their stake on the field and complained through administrative channels, but the Disciplinary Committee ruled that there was “no element to determine misalignment.”

Dorados (2017, Copa Mx)

Dorados de Sinaloa lost a match against Leones Negros, from Copa Mx, as they appeared to be playing with only 11 players on the first team and not 12, as stipulated in the league rules. The Culiacán team was fined a thousand UMAS with a defeat and a fine.

America (closure 2017)

Midfielder Gerson Torres was about to make his debut for América, in a game against Pumas in Clausura 2017, but left the line-up at the last minute. All because the Liga MX informed the Coapa team that Tico could not participate because he was enrolled in the Sub 20 and if he did, the Eagles would incur an incorrect lineup. In 2020, de Tico noted in an interview that he did not triumph with Azulcremas because of that incident, among other things.

Cruz Azul Women (Opening 2018)

In the Apertura 2018, Cruz Azul Femenil was selected to register Mercedes Rodríguez as a technical assistant, on the last day of the championship and despite the fact that he was already active at another club. The Disciplinary Committee decided that the Celestial Machine lost the match and gave the victory to Pumas, advancing them to the final stages of the tournament.

Xolos (2019, Copa Mx)

In the quarter-finals of the MX Cup, Morelia claimed an improper line-up of the Tijuana Xolos, as the border team served minors for 180 minutes with three players and not two. Despite this, the Mexican football authorities decided that the Xolos team had not made any mistakes.

Cruz Azul Women (Clausura 2019)

Cruz Azul for women suffered another misalignment in 2019. Due to the fact that they played with three players over 25 years old. In that tournament, the rules stipulated that four players over the age of 25 could be called up, but only had two on the field. The Celestial Machine lost the match 3-0.

Puebla Women (Opening 2020)

Puebla Femenil was involved in a controversy over an alleged incorrect line-up as it aligned 14-year-old goalkeeper Harumi Cornejo in a game against Monterrey. The Liga MX Femenil clarified that La Franja was not breaking the rules, although the camotero team lost the match on the field.
