The number of new COVID-19 cases in Utah is dropping to its lowest level in five months

Two more deaths bring the total to 1,738.

Utah reported 514 new cases of COVID-19 Sunday – the lowest one-day count since mid-September.

Two more deaths have occurred in the state, according to the Utah Department of Health. And the health department changed the way it reported the coronavirus positivity rate.

Vaccinations reported in the past day / total vaccinations • 3,087 / 417,024.

Number of Utahns that have received two doses • 103,806.

Cases reported in the past day • 514.

Deaths reported in the past day • Two.

Utah County reported the death of a woman between ages 45 and 64, and Washington County reported the death of a man aged 65 to 84.

Hospital admissions reported in the past day • 308. That’s down 21 from Sunday. Of those currently hospitalized, 112 are in intensive care units – eight fewer than on Sunday.

Tests reported in the past day • 3,653 people tested for the first time; 7,216 tests completed.

Percentage of positive tests • According to the state’s original method, the rate is 14.1%, which is lower than the seven-day average of 15.4%.

The new method counts all test results, including repeated tests from the same person. That percentage is 7.1%, about the same as the seven-day average of 7.3%.

Totals so far • 355,122 cases; 1,738 dead; 13,889 hospital admissions; 2,079,688 people tested.
