The number of files of SLO County drops to 9.4, meets the threshold for return of youth sports

San Luis Obispo County’s adjusted COVID-19 number of cases has dropped to 9.4, according to updated reopening statistics released Tuesday.

That meets state criteria to resume outdoor sports. Last week, the state issued new guidelines stating that organized and recreational youth and recreational sports for adults can resume from Feb. 26 in counties where COVID-19 cases are at or below 14 cases per 100,000 people.

Last Tuesday, SLO County’s adjusted number of cases was 15.6. It’s dropped every week since the Southern California regional Stay-at-Home order was lifted and the county returned to the purple low.

The county’s positivity rates have also fallen this week, with both the overall positivity rate and the Healthy Places Index (HPI) positivity rate now at orange levels (3.2% and 3.8%, respectively). Another week like this and the province could move to a less restrictive low.

Dr. Penny Borenstein, the county public health officer, previously stated that SLO County could move from the purple level to the red level if both positivity rates remain at the orange level for two weeks. Otherwise, the county’s adjusted number of cases should be 7 or less.
