The iPhone’s iconic notch has essentially stayed the same since Apple debuted it on the iPhone X in 2017, but things may change this year as new information suggests the notch is getting smaller for the iPhone 13.

Earlier this monthApple analyst Ming-Chi noted Kuo released a research note (via Mac rumors) claim that Apple is planning resize iPhone Face ID notch. But now MacRumors has received a photo of alleged iPhone 13 windshields from a Greek repair service, showing what a reduced notch might actually look like. (Note: For legal reasons, we can’t repost the photo here, so check out the one from MacRumor post for a better look.)

Kuo previously said part of Apple’s solution to shrink the notch is to reduce the size and number of components required to support Face ID. However, the new photo also shows that by consolidating components and the The iPhone earphone speaker is turned on By merging it with the edge of the phone, it looks like Apple was able to almost cut the size of the notch in half.

While many probably wish Apple would completely get rid of the iPhone’s notch, if the alleged photo is correct, the notch is still in line for a significant size reduction. However, this is not the first time we heard Apple could narrow the notchas similar rumors were reported prior to the release of the iPhone 12, and that notch ultimately did not receive any changes.

On the plus side, other predictions mentioned in Kuo’s note include support for 120Hz VRR displays with LTPO technology on more expensive models of the iPhone 13, along with a new Qualcomm X60 modem for improved 5G performance and upgraded cameras including expansion of the iPhone 12 Pro Max’s sensor-shift technology to the entire iPhone 13 line.

Additionally, despite the hint that Apple will actually release a ‘portless’ iPhone in 2021, it appears Kuo has followed that prediction as every new iPhone 13 will have a traditional Lighting port.

The only thing that looks like it will stay the same is the iPhone’s overall design, with multiple sources claiming Apple will keep the more angular boxy design it introduced on the iPhone 12 last year, which itself was a call to earlier iPhones such as the iPhone. 4.
