The News 6 meteorologist is reducing the likelihood of stronger storms in Central Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. UPDATING: All severe thunderstorm warnings previously issued in Central Florida have expired, but the watches remain in effect.

Previously, the warnings were in effect until 1:15 PM for Orange, Lake and Osceola counties.

“It’s a warning of a severe thunderstorm, but those involved, I want you to treat it like it’s a tornado warning because the winds are so intense,” said News 6 meteorologist Jonathan Kegges.

Kegges said they were still straight winds, but estimated to be about 110 mph around 12:45 PM

A severe thunderstorm watch will remain in effect for most of Central Florida until 4:00 PM. The severe thunderstorm watch has been canceled for Marion and Flagler counties.

ORIGINAL RE-STORY

Strong storms will continue to develop north of Orlando in the morning. The storms will solidify into a row around lunchtime and sink south toward the I-4 corridor and the Orlando subway. The line will move closer to the Space Coast this afternoon between 1 and 3 a.m.

Future radar

Early in the day, north of Orlando, hail, heavy rain and damaging winds are the main threats. The threat will turn into more damaging winds and heavy rains as the storms merge into a line and move south as the morning progresses.

A short tornado might be along the line of storms, but that’s not the biggest threat.

Severe weather threatens on Sunday

Even after the storms have penetrated, it will remain very windy on Sunday. Wind gusts can sometimes exceed 30 mph. Wind gusts will be higher with every thunderstorm that develops.

Local flooding is also possible until Sunday afternoon, as torrential rains are expected.

Monday the weather will be much calmer, but the next week will be restless as a whole.
