“I thank our President for his generosity and dedication over all these years, both in the mayor of Isabela and during the presidency of the party and now in the first vice presidency. In particular, his words of confidence toward me inspire me to rise to the challenge of leading our institution, reorganizing it as a whole, and remaining a political tool for all Puerto Ricans.

Maldonado González pointed out that the PPD is “the second political party in Puerto Rico in terms of full votes, as we saw in the last election, we have a majority in the House of Representatives, as in the Puerto Rico Commonwealth Senate and mayors. of the country. We must be the institution that makes proposals, comes up with solutions, does not make excuses, that’s an example. That is the mission ”.

The mayor added that “as soon as the board meets and makes its decisions, we will begin to work towards the reorganization of the PPD: with open arms, generosity and honor. We are going to honor our past and become the option for the future, with the power of youth and the power of experience. We have, and we will be the best option. Our flag will be inclusion, fairness, social justice and the rejection of corruption ”.

Knowing the importance of the status issue, Maldonado assured that “we are going to lead, we are going to the Constitutional Assembly of Status and let the people decide. But don’t be fooled: the options should be clear on the United States side. It’s good for referendums based on deception. We don’t want that strategy here, and they don’t want it there ”.

Maldonado will be the third woman to chair the PPD, after Victoria Muñoz Mendoza and Sila María Calderón Serra, and the first acting mayor to take over the reins of the party founded by Don Luis Muñoz Marín. Maldonado González even made history in the 2016 elections by being the first woman to be elected mayor of Morovis since its founding in 1818.
