The South Korea rating board shows the SNK and Capcom crossover
An interesting game rating seems to have popped up on the South Korean rating board (GRAC) that could tell of a classic crossover making its way to the Nintendo Switch.
A review for “Ultimate Fighters SNK VS. CAPCOM (NS)” was spotted on the Game Rating and Registration Committee website and appears to have been registered earlier this month. As NintendoLife reports, the title SNK vs. Capcom: The Match of the Millennium and looks like it’s headed to Nintendo’s console / handheld hybrid.
SNK vs. Capcom: The Match of the Millennium was originally released on the NeoGeo Pocket Color handheld system in late 1999. Players could choose from 26 different fighters, with representatives from both Capcom’s IPs and of course SNKs.
This crossover allowed for solo 1v1 combat, two-person tag, or three-character teams (similar to King of Fighters). The images took a more chibi style, with characters like Ryu, Chun-Li and Terry similar to the sprites in other NeoGeo Pocket Color titles.
GRAC’s rating indicates that this game is a “Nintendo Switch fighting game with SNK and CAPCOM characters” (according to Google Translate). SNK vs. Capcom is rated “Anyone 12 and older” here, citing “little violent phrase” as the reason for the grade.
With this listing now appearing on the South Korean rating board, it is likely that the title will soon appear on the platform in that region. While there is no confirmation that SNK vs. Capcom on Switch will be released in North America, this activity serves as an indicator that there could be a potential launch in the States.
Several NeoGeo Pocket Color games have found a home on the Nintendo Switch in recent times as we saw SNK Gals’ Fighters hit the console in April 2020 as part of the NeoGeo Pocket Color Selection library. In August 2020, The King of Fighters R-2 and Samurai Shodown! 2 were added to the library, with each title available digitally for a cool $ 7.99 USD.
Considering that several of the handheld games have seen a Nintendo Switch release in the past year, it is certainly plausible that SNK vs. Capcom: The Match of the Millennium will follow as the next NeoGeo Pocket Color Selection title.
SNK has been actively unveiling content here in 2021 as King of Fighters 15 has been officially revealed to the world and has seen consistent trailers every week for the past three weeks. It’s possible that an official announcement for SNK vs. Capcom: The Match of the Millennium comes alongside one of the upcoming showcases.
