The New York Times reported the office of Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance has added former District Attorney Mark Pomerantz to his team investigating potential tax and bank fraud by the Trump Organization.
The Hill has contacted the district attorney’s office for comment.
According to Pomerantz’s bio on the website of the legal practice of Paul, Weiss, whose lawyer is currently on leave, Pomerantz “has assisted CEOs in litigation brought by the Department of Justice and the SEC. ”
The attorney has also “handled material cases and internal investigations regarding all aspects of alleged business misconduct, including securities and banking fraud, postal and telegraphic fraud, RICO and FCPA violations, tax crimes and bribery.”
The addition of Pomerantz is the latest development in Vance’s ongoing investigation into Trump and his affiliates, an investigation that Trump and his allies claim is a politically motivated “ witch hunt, ” by Vance, a Democrat.
The Wall Street Journal reported last week that the district attorney’s office had expanded his investigation to include Trump’s properties in Manhattan, including its signature Trump Tower and Trump International Hotel and Tower, as well as Trump Plaza.
The Journal reported at the time that Vance’s office was conducting specific research loans Trump took out for the buildings provided by subsidiaries of real estate investment fund Ladder Capital.
Ladder Capital has lent Trump more than $ 280 million for the Manhattan buildings since 2012, the paper reported, citing ownership details.
Reports was created last month that Vance’s probe had been expanded to include the former president’s Seven Springs estate in Westchester County.
Vance and Trump are still in a long legal battle over Trump’s tax returns and other financial information.
The Supreme Court ordered Trump to hand over the tax return in July, but the former president has since appealed the ruling. The Supreme Court has not yet decided whether to hear the case.
