The Oklahoma footballer who nearly lost an eye in a bar fight this month, the other side said, had it coming.
Walker Brown said he “defended myself” when he assaulted Sooner’s wide receiver and place-kick holder Spencer Jones in the Logies bathroom at the Corner bar in Norman, Oklahoma.
A 58-second video that went viral last week captured the moment when Brown, a junior at the school and trained wrestler and mixed martial arts fighter, took multiple punches and put Jones in a stranglehold.
Jones, a redshirt senior, underwent a four-hour procedure to rebuild his left orbital cup after the fracas, according to The Athletic.
Police are investigating the incident, which reportedly took place in the early hours of February 14.
No arrests have been made.
The video opens with Jones telling Brown to “get out of here”.
Brown was then pushed by someone standing next to Jones. Seconds later, Brown wiped the blood from his face and hit Jones.
“Something happened before the video started because my nose doesn’t just bleed,” Brown wrote on a GoFundMe page intended to help pay for his medical bills.
Brown tore his biceps, according to the page, which raised $ 35,745.
Woodrow Glass, an attorney who represented Jones, said his client was “trying to de-escalate the situation,” and that the blood on Brown’s face was not caused by Jones.
Glass said Jones went to the bathroom to check on his friend when he was in the middle of an argument.
The video also showed Brown’s brother, Braden, fought with another man in the bathroom.
