This time it’s the Lincoln Project, a political action committee founded in 2019 by prominent Republicans and former members of the party with the goal of preventing Donald Trump’s re-election.
Lincoln Project was the new target of Giuliani’s theories, who, on the program of former Trump adviser Steve Bannon, blamed this group for being behind the events at the Capitol. According to Giuliani’s allegations in the Bannon podcast, “some right-wing groups operating for the Lincoln Project” have acted like “wolves in sheep’s clothing,” which, according to the Republican group, is a suggestion that people under his command had posited as Trump supporters to support the provoke riots.
Hours later, the Lincoln Project issued an awkward letter of withdrawal to Rudy Giuliani and ask him to withdraw what was said and apologize for next Wednesday, February 3.
In the letter, posted to Twitter and signed by that committee’s attorney, Matthew Sanderson, the Lincoln Project lists a long list of embarrassing or denial episodes that Giuliani has starred in over the years since the voicemail he accidentally got in the letterbox. from a journalist, until his compromising performance in Borat’s film.
“You were once a revered and respectable figure. Your unfortunate and self-inflicted decline has been a public spectacle,” says the letter, defending the payments to porn actress Stormy Daniels or an Elite Strike Force for false theories. on fraud that have not won any lawsuit.
“You betrayed your country when you stood up on January 6, 2021 to speak to a raucous crowd that invited your client, former President Donald Trump, a fairly short distance from the Capitol. ‘”Adds the letter.
“You are responsible for an armed occupation of the Capitol and an uprising against the United States. You are responsible for our country’s first non-peaceful transfer of power since the civil war. You are responsible for 140 wounded Capitol police officers. responsible for the deaths of five Americans, ”the Lincoln Project attorney added in the letter.
In Giuliani’s interview for the Steve Bannon show, the attorney said he had information that one of the organizers of the Capitol riots was “ known ” for having worked for the Lincoln Project, a claim that surprised Steve Bannon himself, who asked for some proof.
“I don’t know if I can reveal his name, because we got it from anonymous sources,” Giuliani said, to which Bannon replied, “You’re going to kill me. You can’t make such an accusation and then say ‘yes, I have a secret man I can’t name’.
In the interview with MSNBC, both Smichdt and the host, Ali Velshi, stressed that Bannon himself will question Giuliani’s claimsdespite the lawyer continuing to make allegations without evidence.
“You insulted the manual,” the letter continues. “You have publicly accused the Lincoln Project of a notorious and criminal act with which it has nothing to do, as you well know. You lied, ”concludes the letter in which they give him until Wednesday to withdraw.
The letter does not say what action the political action committee will take if Giuliani does not revoke. Nor has there been any legal action against Trump or his former adviser, Steve Bannon.
