The leader of the Mita Municipality, Teófilo Vargas Seín, better known as Aarón, died tonight at the age of 99 after suffering from various health problems.

The news was spread by his son Samuel Beníquez on the social network Facebook and confirmed by the congregation in a press release.

“Gentlemen, yes, my father Aarón (Teófilo Vargas Seín), world leader of the Mita Congregation, has passed away. There is nothing more to say and no more time to keep hiding the truth. Just pray for his soul ”, Beníquez wrote in a Facebook post, accompanied by several photos.

“I appeal to all parishioners and former parishioners for unity, love, forgiveness, respect and solidarity. Let’s forgive each other so we can be forgiven. Let’s love so that we can be loved. Together we are stronger ”, he added.

The Congregation’s Vice President, Rosinín Rodríguez Pérez, said in written statements that “our beloved Aaron passed away on January 18, 2021 at the age of 99 as a result of an extensive history of cardiovascular disease. Until the last moment of his life, he was accompanied by his loved ones and his team of doctors, who gave him all the love and the utmost care and attention ”.

“Today our Church celebrates Aaron’s birth to eternal life, rest in peace our beloved father and spiritual leader, Aaron,” Rodríguez Pérez added.

The Mita Congregation claims to be the only indigenous church in Puerto Rico. According to his biography on the Congregation’s website, Aarón was born in Hatillo on October 23, 1921. In 1970 he took over the leadership of the Congregation Mita.
