NEW YORK – Notorious “Amityville Horror” killer Ronald DeFeo died in an unknown manner last week at the age of 69 in a New York hospital.

State Department of Corrections officials confirmed his death Monday, Newsday reported.

DeFeo died at Albany Medical Center on March 12. The cause of death is determined by the local medical examiner’s office.

The former Amityville resident was serving a prison sentence at the Sullivan Correctional Center for the murder of six members of his family in 1974.

DeFeo was 23 when he shot his parents, two sisters, and two brothers while they slept in their Amityville home.

The Long Island home later became famous in the 1979 movie “The Amityville Horror” or “Horror in Amityville”.
