The key in the fight against COVID-19 lies in prevention

Since the advent of the pandemic of the COVID-19 In Venezuela, the national government has made great efforts to combat the coronavirus in the country, pushing for a series of reinforcing preventive measures to prevent the spread of this virus that so affects humanity.

In this sense, the revolutionary government has made numerous recommendations that are being sent to the Presidential Commission for the Prevention, Care and Control of COVID-19, which evaluates every action in the face of the pandemic.

These considerations are essential in making the decisions with which the national government faces the pandemic.

Consequently, and before the new variant of the COVID-19Venezuelans need to be alert and aware of this terrible disease, the virus, its variants, its form of infection, its lethality, its impact on the health and economy of the world, and most importantly, prevention.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO GET COVID-19 THROUGH CONTACT WITH A PERSON WITHOUT SYMPTOMS?

  • The virus enters through the respiratory tract, nose and mouth, to a lesser extent through the mucous membrane of the eyes; Viruses reach the airways directly from the air when we breathe in or when we bring them to our face with contaminated hands.
  • This virus initially propagates in the nose and throat and then in the respiratory tract. It does not reproduce in the external environment, it must be in a person, if there are no people, the virus dies.

HOW IS COVID-19 DISTRIBUTED?

  • Every time we breathe, speak, cough or sneeze, we expel virus-laden microparticles from 0.5 to 2 meters away. When we have a person without a mask around, these particles go directly into the respiratory tract.
  • Those particles remain in the air with live viruses for up to 3 hours; when we are in closed environments, they concentrate, disappear in open environments.
  • Another group of particles falls on the surfaces close to the patient, on these surfaces they can remain alive for 24 to 72 hours; 24 hours on paper and cardboard surfaces, 72 hours on plastic and metal surfaces. They live longer at a lower temperature.

WHAT CAN I DO TO PROTECT MYSELF AND PREVENT THE SPREAD OF THE DISEASE?

  • Comply with the Voluntary Quarantine, stay at home. Fewer people on the street, less transmission of the virus.
  • Use of a mask properly covering the nose and mouth and permanently in all areas. Mask as a protective barrier.
  • Periodic hand washing or disinfection, water and soap is sufficient, also solutions or gels with 70% alcohol. Don’t put dirty hands on your face.
  • Social distance, minimum 1.5 meters between people. Avoid concentrations and overcrowding.
  • Cough and sneeze etiquette, with tissues or on the inside of the elbow, wash hands after sneezing and coughing.
  • Natural ventilation of environments, avoid closed spaces, without ventilation, reduce air conditioners, glass down during transportation.
  • Cleaning of environments, at home and at work, with solutions containing water and soap or 0.5% chlorine.

THERE ARE OTHER WAYS TO GREET, NOT HANDS, KISSING OR CUDDLING

  • New forms of greeting, avoid unnecessary physical contact.

IF YOU HAVE THE FLU OR THE COMMON COLD WE RECOMMEND YOU:

  • Personal health surveillance, observation of symptoms, seek medical evaluation.
