BOULDER, Colorado – Days after the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) said thousands of vaccinated people should be re-vaccinated at a Colorado Springs clinic, some of those affected are concerned about the potential implications of receiving additional doses.
“I just hate being in that position where you wait for someone to acknowledge what’s going on and give you the answers you’re looking for,” said Chris Nyce, a Boulder resident who took his first dose of the Moderna. vaccine. in March in the Dr. Moma Health and Wellness clinic in Colorado Springs.
The clinic was authorized by CDPHE to offer COVID-19 vaccines, but on April 9, the state said they would be suspended while they were conducting the investigation.
On Tuesday, the CDPHE said improper storage at Dr. Moma meant nearly 4,000 people had to be re-vaccinated.
According to state guidelines, those who received one dose in the clinic should receive two additional doses. Those who have received two doses in the clinic should receive one additional dose.
“I’m worried about getting this third shot because nobody knows what happens when you get a third shot,” said Nyce.
His concerns prompted him to contact the manufacturer, Moderna.
“Moderna said in the conversations I had with them, ‘We don’t recommend taking a third shot,’” said Nyce.
Denver7 reached out to both CDPHE and Moderna for clarification on the discrepancy, but has yet to hear.
The CDPHE press release stated that they have consulted the CDC to release guidelines for revaccination and, “Due to a lack of clinical data, the CDC does not recommend that people receive more than three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, regardless of the validity.”
Nyce said he is concerned that a third vaccination dose could affect his ability to get a booster shot in the future.
