The Home Secretary expects restrictive changes to the new Executive Order

Interior Minister Noelia García Bardales announced today, Tuesday, that Governor Pedro Pierluisi Urrutia will consider more restrictive changes to the current Executive Order, which will expire next Monday.

At a La Fortaleza press conference, the cabinet official explained that the executive is still considering making tougher changes and expects to announce them later in the week.

“The governor will speak out promptly. He has his ear on the ground. The statistics are being analyzed and we should certainly ask for caution,” García Bardales said after meeting with the legislative delegations of the New Progressive Party.

“The fact that we vaccinated a million people does not change the prescription for COVID-19. The prescription continues to dissociate, mask and prevent,” he told the media.

The utterances come after a recovery in COVID-19 cases in Puerto Rico has increased in recent weeks, reaching the highest peak in hospital admissions since the beginning of the year today.

The announcement, in turn, takes place a week after the designated health minister, Carlos Mellado López, announced the registration of several cases of different variants of the virus, one of those incidents that resulted in the death of a Puerto Rican.

“We remain in the position that if changes are needed, changes will indeed be made. The current decision expires on Monday, before that it will be announced whether it will be extended and whether there are any changes,” he concludes.
