The country paid $ 4.27 for each dose of the Covid-19 vaccine received yesterday after it was obtained through the global Covax mechanism, through the Pan American Health Organization’s (PAHO / WHO) Revolving Fund.
The first batch the country will receive through this mechanism was 91,200 doses of the AstraZeneca / Oxford vaccine, manufactured by SK Bioscience of South Korea, for a total cost of $ 390,000.
With this first batch, out of a total of 2,169,600 doses contracted by the country through this mechanism, the second dose will be completed for the front-line personnel who received the first dose of this type of vaccine manufactured in India.
The country has also received more than a million vaccines against Covid-19 from the Chinese company Sinovac, purchased for about $ 19 per dose.
Yesterday, Dr. Daniel Rivera, Secretary of Health who was responsible for receiving the vaccines, recalled that these doses were reached across the country with his own funding, through the Pan American Health Organization’s Revolving Fund (PAHO / WHO) , responsible for the procurement of Covid-19 vaccines for the countries of America prior to the COVAX mechanism, through this global mechanism.
“Most importantly for us, a large proportion of all the staff working in health centers have been vaccinated with AstraZeneca, for which they already have vaccines available so they can get their second dose between eight and twelve weeks, and so we are within the limit. margin, ”the official said.

With regard to vaccination, the Minister of Health emphasized that from last Good Friday to Monday, 125,746 people were vaccinated against the virus.
He explained that it was only last Monday that 90,703 people were vaccinated, while during the Easter holidays on Good Friday, 16,325 doses were administered; on Holy Saturday 11,028 and on Easter Sunday 7,690 vaccinations.
He said the vaccination process is progressing at a good pace and there are about 500,000 people to complete the first phase of the National Vaccination Plan developed by the government.
