Two counties in Georgia have filed lawsuits to recover legal fees from former President Donald Trump, which he incurred as part of a failed campaign to prove widespread voter fraud in November’s presidential election.
Cobb County and DeKalb County filed court requests Monday to recoup attorney fees incurred in unsuccessful lawsuits for alleged voter fraud Trump filed against them in December. Both motions seek to recover the charges from both Trump and Georgia GOP chairman David Shafer.
The election supervisors of Cobb and DeKalb counties were among those named in an unsuccessful lawsuit filed in the Fulton County Superior Court by the Trump campaign in December, which sought the outcome of the Georgia presidential election, which saw President Joe Biden won by a relatively small margin. .
The Trump campaign has filed dozens of other lawsuits across the country to reverse the election results, which also failed.
The Cobb County motion stated that Janine Eveler, the county election director, and the Cobb County Board of Elections spent more than $ 10,000 to defend Trump’s baseless claims.
It said the claims turned out to be “procedurally flawed, factually unsupported, or both,” and that the fees represented “only a fraction” of the fees made by a total of 15 counties that also faced lawsuits.

DeKalb County’s motion states that it has spent more than $ 6,000 to defend itself against “baseless and frivolous claims” of violations of state law, voter fraud, absentee ballot processing, and other unproven allegations.
The legal action was also brought against Georgia state election council, Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and 13 other county election leaders, KITV reported.
The Cobb County motion stated that former President Trump and Shafer had “held this election match against the Georgia secretary of state and the members of the state election council who wanted to destroy the votes of millions of Georgians.”
The case was thrown out in January, The Hill reported, days after Trump was caught on tape pressuring Secretary of State Raffensperger to “find” additional votes for him.
“At least we mysteriously dropped somewhere between 250 and 300,000 ballots on the reels,” Trump told Raffensperger in the leaked phone call.
“I just want to find 11,780 votes, that’s one more than we have because we’ve won the state, and turning the state around is a great testament to our country,” Trump said.
Raffensperger has reportedly launched an investigation into Trump’s attempts to reverse the election results in Georgia.
