ATLANTA (AP) – A Georgia man said his former employer owed him a pretty penny, $ 915 to be exact, after he left his job in November.
But Andreas Flaten said he was shocked to see his latest payment, 90,000 oil or fat-covered pennies, at the end of his driveway earlier this month, news outlets reported. On top of the stack was an envelope with Flaten’s last pay slip and an explicit farewell message.
“This is a childish thing to do,” said Flaten.
Flaten said he quit his job at A OK Walker Autoworks in Peachtree City in November. He said he owed the final check and was having a hard time getting it, and even turned to the Georgia Department of Labor to get help.
In mid-March, Flaten said as he left his house with his girlfriend, he saw the pile at the end of his driveway. He said the pennies were covered in some kind of oily substance.
Now his nighttime routine consists of clearing the pennies so he can collect them. He said it took him about an hour and a half to clean hundreds of them.
“I think that’s going to be a lot of work for money I’ve already worked for,” he said. “It’s not fair at all.”
The store’s owner, Miles Walker, spoke briefly to WGCL-TV and said he did not know whether or not he had deposited the pennies at Flaten’s home.
“I don’t really remember,” Walker told the TV station. “It doesn’t matter that he’s been paid, that’s all that matters.”
Walker called Flaten a “cock”.
Flaten’s girlfriend, Olivia Oxley, said she hopes her boyfriend’s story will shed light on how people are “treated so badly by their employers.”
She said the couple are no longer angry and look positively at the small act.
“With that much money we will certainly find some treasures. I’ve already found one from 1937, ”said Oxley. After the first scoop was full, we could only laugh because this poor, miserable man took so much time to be vengeful and cruel. We absolutely refused to let him ruin a moment of ours. “
