And it is that while in Mexico, Mikel Arriola, president of Liga MX, recognized that a merger with MLS would be tremendous growthIn the United States, they are also clear that partnering with Mexican football will bring them good dividends.

Yes indeed, Don Garber said the first step is to consolidate both the Leagues Cup and the Campeones Cup and do it the right way so as not to clash with Concacaf or its Champions League.

“I am excited about our conversations with them (Liga MX), about an extensive Leagues Cup; what a Campeones Cup can look like when more people watch their champion and our champion play in a championship format. The future looks bright and we will continue to work together

‘YOU MUST WALK BEFORE YOU RENT’

The commissioner stressed that while the aim is to strengthen Concacaf through tournaments in partnership with Liga MX, they should not eat cravings and take it step by step.

“There is no reason why this region, North America and Concacaf, is not as strong and valuable as Conmebol, CAF or UEFA at the time. And the only way to do it, is to create meaningful competitions between their top clubs as seen in Europe or South America and we have to run before we run.

“That’s the Leagues Cup, the Campeones Cup what it’s about; that is our mutual commitment to Concacaf about having the right schedule and opportunities at the ConcacampionsAnd as we see more and more value coming out of that, we will eventually be able to get closer and closer in terms of the relationship we seek with meaningful competitions. ”
