While Tom Brady might have made the best stride of his career when he launched the Lombardi Trophy to another boat in Cameron Brate’s arms, at least one person was unimpressed.
Lorraine Grohs, who said her father Greg Grohs was the master silversmith at Tiffany & Co. from 1967 to 1994 and designed the first Vince Lombardi trophy, Brady called on to apologize for his conduct while speaking with Fox 4’s Leslie Delas Bour in Southwest Florida. .
“It only upset me that this trophy was disgraced and disrespected because it was thrown like it was a real football,” said Grohs. “I have a long history of my dad making this trophy, and it’s such an honor, and I know all the craftsmen who made it when my dad was there at Tiffany’s. And it takes a lot of hard work.”
Brady’s pitch went viral during the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ boat parade in honor of winning Super Bowl LV.
According to Grohs, the event caused enough stress to affect her ability to sleep, because her father’s hard work was taken lightly.
“I’ve seen this trophy made at Tiffany’s factory and it’s a beautiful trophy,” said Grohs. “My dad had to chisel the seams, he had to chisel the seams by hand. There is a newspaper article showing that he is working on that trophy. The ball is shaped by hand and so is the base.”
She’s not normally a football fan, but added that she watches the Super Bowl to see how the players, coaches and owners proudly take home the league’s biggest prize. Grohs said she wants an apology from the seven-time Super Bowl winner.
“Personally I would like an apology not only to me and my family and the other silversmiths, but also to the fans, all the football fans and the other team players.”
