Social media users have ripped up The Daily Beast for publishing misinformation on Tuesday about the fatal police shooting of 16-year-old Ma’Khia Bryant in Columbus, Ohio.
In its initial report, the liberal site suggested that when police arrived on the scene, Bryant was unarmed and a knife was “on the ground.” However, when Columbus Police released CCTV footage of the incident, the video revealed that Bryant attacked two other females, one of whom she pushed and the other with a knife.
An officer shot Bryant four times before she fell to the ground. She died in hospital after being transferred there in a critical condition.
NPR ADMITS COLUMBUS SHOOTING STORY MAY BE INACCURATE: ‘SOME FACTS REPORTED … MAY BE WRONG LATER’
In the original report, The Daily Beast cited Bryant’s aunt, Hazel Bryant, as the main source. She told reporters that her niece was the one who called the police and that she had not received a warning before firing at her. She added that the police would ‘lie’ about the altercation with her niece.
“The police are going to lie,” said. ‘The police are going to hide themselves. They don’t care. Right now I feel like they just want to kill black people. They are not here to protect and serve. That will not happen. That is a long time ago. They are not here to protect and serve. They are here to kill black people. ‘
After the bodycam footage came out showing Bryant attacking two other people, The Daily Beast updated his story accordingly.
DEREK CHAUVIN VERDICT PRODUCED FOREIGN ANALYSIS, CRINGEWORTHY TWEETS AND ‘WILDLY ACCIDENTS’ TAKES
“Yes, the media is lying to you,” said Parkland survivor and conservative activist Kyle Kashuv, sharing screenshots of the Daily Beast’s first misleading report on Twitter.
NPR was also forced to update its story after viewing the police footage.
The outlet added an unusual disclaimer at the bottom of their coverage, telling readers, “Some of the facts reported by the media may later turn out to be false.”
Conservative writer Allahpundit pointed to several other examples of misleading headlines being prematurely pushed to seemingly concoct a story of systemic racism among the police.
The Ohio Department of Investigation is investigating the fatal incident.
The Columbus shooting took place about 20 minutes before the jury’s verdict at the Derek Chauvin trial in Minneapolis. They found the former policeman guilty of all three charges of murder and manslaughter in George Floyd’s death.

The city of Minneapolis seemed to breathe a collective sigh of relief after the verdict. Had Chauvin been found not guilty, protesters told MSNBC they would “ fight back, ” signaling another round of violent riots. Companies are bracing for the outcome of the lawsuit and closed stores in the run-up to the verdict.
