The COVID-19 outbreak in Costco, Washington state leaves 145 workers infected

At least 145 Costco state employees in Washington have been infected with COVID-19, health officials announced Tuesday.

The outbreak at the Union Gap store could worsen, officials said, as worker testing continues, KOMO news reported.

“As Costco continues to test the entire site, we expect the number of cases to continue to rise in the coming days as the results are received,” said Melissa Sixberry, director of disease control in Yakima County.

The store, which employs 383 people, is allowed to remain open during the outbreak because it has taken measures recommended by the province to stop the spread of the contamination.

All 145 employees who tested positive are isolated, the report said.

Yakima County, where the store is located, reported more than 18,200 confirmed COVID-19 cases on Wednesday.
