The vaccines entering the country will be through the COVAX mechanism, the first agreement signed by the Dominican government to obtain vaccines against the virus.
As reported by Public Health, the new batch will arrive at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday and enter through Las Américas International Airport. 96 thousand doses are expected.
The COVAX program, set up by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the GAVI Vaccine Alliance to distribute covid vaccines worldwide, will send 26 million vaccines to Latin American countries between March and May, mainly from AstraZeneca, as reported by the EFE news agency .
Likewise, the agency explained at the time that the Dominican Republic would receive 463 thousand doses in a first batch.
The agreement with the Fund for Fair Global Access to COVID-19 Vaccines (COVAX) states that the country will receive a total of 2,169,600 vaccines in exchange for US $ 22,889,280.
