The new Puerto Rico Police Department commissioner Antonio López acknowledged that the “criminal intelligence” method of tracking, locating and watching out for individuals who could commit criminal acts, as occurred earlier this week three officers killed in a shooting in Carolina.
“The police lost what is called criminal information, namely obtaining criminal information and following up on these persons,” López said in an interview with Radio Island 1320.
However, López indicated that this initiative, which he labeled “fundamental” in every public order office, will now be resumed.

The commissioner also stressed that there are “few” criminal organizations in Puerto Rico and that they are only “ten”.
Police are now focusing on investigating the murder of David Rivera Batiz, a young man responsible for the deaths of three officers in the shooting that took place this week and who was found dead with a sign in Santurce.
López said that since there are few organizations involved in drug trafficking on the island, they could already know who authored the 25-year-old’s murder.
