DETROIT – As criticism has grown over the slow vaccination rate, Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan announced on Thursday that the city will expand distribution.

Beginning Monday, the TCF Center will begin hiring appointments for Detroiters over 75 and “Group B” key employees – including teachers and childcare workers.

Group B employees must provide their employer’s name and most recent pay slip to verify eligibility.

Residents can call 313-230-0505 to make an appointment. The vaccinations start on Wednesday.

January 7, 2020: Coronavirus cases in Michigan up to 512,751; Death toll now at 13,094

When an appointment is scheduled, individuals are given two appointment dates: one for the first dose and one for the required second dose.

The call center agents will contact any scheduled person before their second appointment to remind them.

For greater efficiency and convenience, the city recommends that eligible members of the same family or neighbors, if possible, plan jointly and arrive in the same vehicle.

On Friday, the vaccine will be made available to any Detroit police officer or DDOT bus driver who wants it.

The Detroit Health Department is aiming to vaccinate all homeless shelters and senior apartments by the end of February.

The city is working hard to prevent people from sitting in long lines waiting for the vaccine.

Who is eligible for the vaccine at TCF?

  • Any resident of Detroit aged 75 and older
  • Any “good neighbor” aged 65 and over driving a 75 year old to TCF Center
  • Group B employees, including teachers K-12 and daycare

Detailed information on the TCF test site is available on the Detroit official website. As more independent vaccination sites at pharmacies and elsewhere are coming online in the city, a map with locations will be added to the website.
