The Chairman of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Organizing Committee resigns

Amid the sexist comments scandal that sparked outrage, The Chairman of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Organizing Committee, Yoshiro Mori, resigned this Friday.

The former Japanese Prime Minister recognized the negative impact of your statements, which could hinder the successful outcome of the Olympic competition which has been delayed due to COVID-19.

The outrage, on and off Japanese soil, was due to Mori’s controversial statements the week before, referring to women speaking too long in board meetings, which was “annoying” to him.

The apologies made to the press the next day were not enough to appease the criticism between sponsors of the Olympic Games, diplomatic representatives and within the International Olympic Committee itself.

While there is no clear replacement for Mori in his position so far, among the list of possible candidates is Saburo Kawabuchi, who was previously president of the Asian country’s football association.
