When he began his participation in the Council of the Magistracy, Judge Alejandro Vargas said that he hoped that having changed seats, in reference to his earlier participation in the same scenario, he hoped that his luck would also change.

José Alejandro Vargas Guerrero, known for his speeches and comments to defendants, as well as members of the prosecution and lawyers, was appointed to the Constitutional Court this Friday.

Vargas Guerrero is known among his close friends as Chichi: he is a lawyer, teacher and writer, born July 6, 1955. Married to Ketty Múñoz Tabar, with whom he had three children: Jomar Vargas Múñoz, Joavel Vargas Múñoz, both lawyers, and Jonathan Vargas Múñoz, physician.

He is one of the best-known judges in the Dominican Republic for directing cases of high importance and for his special way of judging.

In recent months, he has been responsible for lawsuits of major importance, such as the degree of coercion of those involved in the César Emilio Peralta case, aka César el Abusar, the Anti Octopus case and the files of various parties involved in the case. from Odebrecht.

He has served as Justice of the Peace of the National District Special Traffic Court, First Instance Judge of the Permanent Attention Court, and Coordinating Judge of the National District Permanent Attention Courts.

Likewise, he is a founding member of the Dominican Association of Journalists and a member of the Bar Association of the Dominican Republic.

He studied specializations in criminal law, constitutional law, governmental law and fundamental rights.

The magistrate is Professor of Constitutional Law and Criminal Procedure Law at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD).

He has written several books, including: The Constitutional Court and the guarantees of fundamental rights; Practical Guide to Unconstitutional Acts and Personal Coercion, with two editions, one in 2016 and the other in 2017.

In August 2015, he completed his master’s degree in administrative law with a double degree between the Global Institute of Advanced Studies in Social Sciences (IGlobal) and the University of Salamanca.

Vargas Guerrero aspired to be a Justice of the Peace at the National School of the Judiciary in 2005.

In 2017, he aspired to a vacancy in the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), when Danilo Medina chaired the National Council of the Magistracy, although he later declined because he felt that the members of the CNM did not trust him. In 2019, Vargas Guerrero was an aspiring Supreme Court Judge (SCJ).

And this year to a member of the Constitutional Court, of which he was elected and will be a member from January 26. Apparently the change of seat has changed his luck.
