Four-player co-op is now also available for Captain Toad’s Adventures
As a fan of the Wii U original, I didn’t expect to play anymore Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury “when the time is right” to want to play it right away in February – and feel good about that choice. I wasn’t mental at the time until we saw some Bowser’s Fury implied and taught that there would be co-op (albeit only for two players instead of the main campaign for four players).
That’s quite a turnaround. And strangely enough it is a similar trajectory as Pikmin 3 Deluxe – another really excellent Wii U gem that I thought was worth picking up again for its added multiplayer support.
That said, it looks like Nintendo is taking it a step further Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury. As seen in a gameplay clip on Twitter, the upgraded Switch title will have four-player co-op in the Captain Toad puzzle levels. Remember those? The lines are pretty blurry to me at this point.

The toad enters Super Mario 3D world on Wii U was a solo affair (GamePad only), but on Switch Captain Toad is joined by blue, green and yellow Toads – assuming you have IRL backup. You “work together” to collect green stars. (And by that I mean you fucking annoy each other.)
Perhaps this is a small addition to the big plan 3D World, one that many people won’t fully utilize, but it’s important. When it comes to video game reissues, the little details always matter.
