The Cal State LA vaccination site offers vaccines to all adults

At the mass vaccination site at Cal State in Los Angeles, any adult can queue for a COVID-19 vaccine between Thursday and the end of Sunday, the governor’s Office of Emergency Services said Wednesday night.

The decision comes about a week before, starting April 15, the state will formally allow every Californian 16 and older to receive the vaccine.

The move came about because there has been an overcapacity at the Cal State LA site in recent days to administer COVID-19 vaccinations.

Thousands of appointment times there have not been booked by eligible people through the MyTurn registration system. As a result, vaccinators at the site are allowed to inoculate adults who walk to the site without an appointment – including those who do not meet the eligibility criteria, said Brian Ferguson, a spokesperson for the Office of Emergency Services.

“We have not been able to keep all agreements in the past few days,” said Ferguson. As a result, the on-site staff began to “make walk-ups. [Wednesday] is the day it started. “

Anyone 18 and older is allowed to wait in line between Thursday and Sunday evenings to get the vaccine at the Cal State LA site, Ferguson said.

“As long as vaccines remain available, we’ll vaccinate until we’re free,” he said.

People can wait to see if vaccines are available in the site’s pedestrian zone, Cal-OES spokesman Greg Renick said.

Vaccinators will still prioritize appointments made through the state’s MyTurn system, which can only be made by people 50 or older, those with underlying medical conditions, and those working in certain essential jobs, such as healthcare , education, childcare, emergencies. services, and food and agriculture. People can sign up for an appointment at the website or by calling (833) 422-4255.

The Cal State Los Angeles vaccination site, located on the east side of the city at 5151 State University Drive, is now operated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services. Management of the site will be handed over to the city of Los Angeles Monday morning.

The Cal State LA vaccination site is open between 9:00 AM and 7:00 PM. People do not need to live or work in LA County to qualify for a walk-up vaccination at the Cal State LA location.

The Cal State LA site manages the Johnson & Johnson shot, which requires only one dose.

Other counties have decided to go faster than state guidelines to give all adults, including some teens, access to the vaccine.

In Southern California, the counties of Kern, Riverside, and San Bernardino have made sure that everyone 16 and older is eligible for admission.

Orange County allows anyone aged 16 and older living in four hard-hit zip codes – 92701 and 92703 in Santa Ana; 92805 in Anaheim and 92844 in Garden Grove – to be vaccinated.

In the Bay Area, Alameda County allows anyone 16 and older living in a dozen hard-hit zip codes to be vaccinated, including unincorporated neighborhoods in Oakland, Hayward, San Leandro, and San Lorenzo.

Elsewhere in California, a number of northern counties – such as Contra Costa, Butte, Shasta, and Nevada – are among those that have opened up vaccines to people 16 and older; most require recipients to live or work in those provinces. Yuba and Sutter counties have made COVID-19 recordings available to anyone 18 and older who lives or works there.

The UC Davis Health System People 16 and older are also vaccinated in the Sacramento area.

All COVID-19 vaccines are free to anyone living in the United States, regardless of immigration or health insurance status.
