The final chapter in The Binding of Isaac saga is almost here, and it’s getting a physical release on Switch. The horror roguelike takes inspiration from the biblical story in which Abraham is asked by God to sacrifice his son Isaac, while the mother of the eponymous Isaac tries to sacrifice him as a symbol of her faith. Isaac escapes into the monster-filled basement, and that’s how the game begins, as the sobbing Isaac takes on hordes of biblical demons in a Zelda-like dungeon.
The Binding of Isaac: Repentance adds two new playable characters, 130+ new items, 100+ new enemies, 25+ new bosses, and a new alternate path with new chapters, a new final boss and a new ending. That is a lot of news!
In addition to all the extra items and bosses, Repentance also adds graphics improvements, gameplay updates, and game balance changes. Creator Edmund McMillen called it the “best version of Isaac”.
The game does not have an official release date, but will instead get a release date of “Q3 2021” – that’s sometime between July and September – although the PC version will be out on Steam on March 31st. However, there will not be a complete list of the game’s features, as the developers want to “maximize the fun of the player and keep the element of surprise as much as possible”.
