The Beach Boys are selling controlling interest in their masters and brand

The Beach Boys have sold a majority stake in the group’s intellectual property to Irving Azoff’s Iconic Artists Group company, Rolling stone reports. The sale includes the group’s master recordings and some of their publications, but unlike recent deals struck by artists like Bob Dylan and Neil Young, the sale of the Beach Boys also includes the rights to the brand as a whole and the memorabilia of the group.

Azoff has not disclosed how much he paid for a majority stake, but the band will retain a stake in their intellectual property. “They can make the final decision about business decisions, and that’s what we really need – what we needed, I would say,” Al Jardine said. Rolling stone
