Outdoor and fitness offers

January is rife with deals on fitness and outdoor gear thanks to the renewed determination of those with New Year’s resolutions. If the health-related gadget or gadget you’ve been looking at isn’t already for sale, it probably will soon.

  • REI End of Year Sale: Up to 50 percent off: Almost every category of outdoor equipment that REI sells is discounted. Big, sweeping discounts like this aren’t particularly rare for REI, but it’s the best times to see if a brand you love has good deals. For example, we all swear by the Gear team by DarnTough socks, and a few of the Hiker styles are discounted. They’re super warm and great for cold weather (and backed by a lifetime warranty).

  • Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 for $ 339 ($ 61 off): If you are looking for an alternative to Apple Watch, this is it. It has blood oxygen saturation measurement capabilities, an electrocardiogram and you can perform all the usual smartwatch functions such as tracking steps and responding to notifications on your phone. It works on iPhones, but with limited functionality. If you don’t want to spend that much, the Galaxy Watch Active 2 is also a good option with a similar feature set for $ 200 ($ 70 off).

  • Fossil Gen 5E Men’s for $ 139 ($ 110 off) and Women for $ 139 ($ 110 off): This is the best deal we’ve seen on these relatively new watches, even better than Fossil’s Black Friday sale. At this price, they’re great options for checking notifications and tracking basic conditions, but the battery only lasts a day and they’re not super fast.

  • Garmin Fenix 5 Plus Sapphire Edition for $ 350 ($ 400 off): This isn’t the latest Garmin, but if you’re a multisport athlete looking for a rugged fitness watch, this is a great option on offer. It offers color topographic maps, route tracking, an altimeter and GPS functionality. It also analyzes your heart rate to tell you what activity level your body is ready for. The screen is protected by sapphire glass, which is harder to scratch than glass.

  • Beats Powerbeats Pro for $ 170 ($ 80 off): Earplugs keep falling off during exercise? These stay put, whatever you do, and have good sound quality and a battery life of 9 hours. Our review contains more details.

  • Apple Watch Series 6 for $ 350 ($ 49 off): This is the best smartwatch if you have an iPhone. It can monitor sleep, blood oxygen saturation and the level of environmental noise around you, plus it has an EKG and can do a lot more. Read our review.
