Thailand partners with Tinder for ‘singles journeys’

(CNN) – Summer feast has long been a happy, occasional benefit of travel.

But the Thai tourism authority is partnering with dating app Tinder to offer travel packages specifically for matchmaking.

While Thailand’s borders are technically open to foreign tourists – at least those who are willing to spend two weeks in a hotel room in quarantine and pay for a visa application – the ‘Single Journey’ initiative is aimed at locals as a way to encourage domestic tourists. to travel.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the country’s official travel agency, plans nine itineraries across the country, starting with three pilot trips. The first, taking place on December 20, is a cruise along Bangkok’s Chao Phraya River for up to 100 loners.

The day’s experience includes sightseeing, dinner and a lecture from a Feng Shui expert “who will give tips on how to pay tribute to Buddha and ask for blessings,” which invariably should be something daters should care about by little. to talk.

The other two pilot experiences are a beach party and concert in Phuket and a train trip to Pa Sak Jolasid dam in Lopburi, both in January 2021 and each can accommodate up to 50 people. Bookings open on December 15th and can be made through the Sneaksdeal website (in Thai).

“The ‘Single Travel Route’ is aimed at individual travelers who prefer to travel alone to different destinations in Thailand,” said TAT Governor, Mr Yuthasak Supasorn, in a statement.

The “Single Journey” initiative is just the latest idea to boost domestic tourism amid the coronavirus pandemic. In November, Thai Airways – Thai Smile’s parent company – operated a one-time “flight to nowhere,” departing from and returning to Bangkok, flying over 99 sacred Buddhist sites along the way across the country.
Elsewhere, Taiwanese EVA Airlines had a similar idea of its own. The “Love Is In the Air” promotion has three flights planned – on Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day – with speed dating on board, followed by a romantic afternoon tea or candlelit dinner on solid ground.

Just one question: if a couple plays a love match on one of these trips, will the tourist office sponsor their future honeymoon?
