Tesla already appears to be taking a fairly large order of robots for the production of Model Y at Gigafactory Texas.
Tesla Gigafactory Texas
In mid-2020, Tesla announced a deal to build a brand new factory in Austin, where they bought a 2,000-acre plot of land.
Initially, Tesla called the factory the Cybertruck Gigafactory because the car manufacturer planned to produce the electric pick-up there.
However, we reported that Tesla planned to produce Model Y at the factory first, and the company later called it ‘Gigafactory Texas’.
The automaker plans to manufacture Model 3, Model Y, Cybertruck and Tesla Semi at Gigafactory Texas.
Construction started in July 2020 and the carmaker plans to complete “first completion” in May 2021 and production is expected to start shortly thereafter.
Tesla also plans to set up battery cell manufacturing at the factory and make it an “ecological paradise” open to the public.
Tesla has made a lot of progress in recent months based on drone flyovers from the construction site.
There are now several gigantic buildings taking shape on the site.
Tesla takes delivery of robots
While we’ve seen a lot of progress in construction, building structures and actually deploying production capacity are two completely different things.
But we have also seen some progress in manufacturing capacity. Last month, we reported that Tesla received its first Giga press at Gigafactory Texas.
Now it seems that Tesla is also receiving a decent order of robots.
YouTube channel Terafactory Texas flew over the factory this week and saw Tesla unload what looked like a lot of robots:
Most Tesla production lines require hundreds of robots, and the automaker is known to use both Kuka and Fanuc robots.
This is a good sign that Tesla is getting ready to expand its Model Y production lines. But it could take months for Tesla to be able to produce vehicles from the new factory.
