Tennessee man shot, murdered after YouTube video ‘joke’ went wrong

A man was shot in the parking lot of a Nashville company on Friday night after a robbery “prank” for a YouTube channel went wrong, according to police.

When agents arrived at Urban Air in the Hermitage neighborhood of the city around 9:20 PM, they met Timothy Wilks, 20, and a friend approached a group of people, including David Starnes Jr., with butcher knives as part of the joke.

Starnes, 23, told detectives he was unaware of the joke and shot Wilks in self-defense, Metropolitan Nashville police said in a statement Saturday. The status of the friend who was with Wilks has not been disclosed.

Starnes has not been charged in connection with the incident, which is still under investigation.
