Heidi Cruz is “pissed off” that texts from her inviting neighborhood friends about the family’s tone-deaf foray to Cancun have been leaked to the press, according to Senator Ted Cruz, who has ripped those responsible as “a-holes”.
The Texas GOPer expressed his PR nightmare of a trip to Mexico in the podcast “Ruthless,” which aired Tuesday.
“I’ll say Heidi is pretty pissed off about that,” Cruz said of the group text in which his better half asked friends to flee with them to Cancun amid the “ICY” temps.
Cruz noted that he has a mix of Republican and Democratic neighbors in his exclusive River Oaks neighborhood of Houston – and said the leak was a sign of “how ridiculously politicized and nasty” people can get.
“Here’s a suggestion: just don’t be a-hole,” he continued. “Like, just, you know, treating each other like people have a certain amount, a little respect.”
Cruz is in the process of damage control after he was caught flying to Cancun with his wife and two daughters on Wednesday, days after Texas was paralyzed by a one-off winter storm.
The senator was forced to interrupt his trip and fly back home the next day and apologize.
Cruz was scrutinized by the mini-vacation optics – and because he left the family dog, Snowflake, home alone with no power or heat.
“Apparently I fed Snowflake to the wolves,” Cruz said, rubbing the impact away. “He was at home with a dog sitter. The heat was on a bit again. The whole thing is a bit absurd. “
He also condemned the media for publishing snapshots of Heidi in her bikini on the beach.
“I’ll tell you she’s mad,” he joked.
At the outset of his interview on the podcast, Cruz whipped up the long-standing joke that he is the infamous Zodiac Killer, who terrorized the Golden State decades ago.
“Look, I haven’t had that much negative press coverage since Northern California in the 1960s,” he crunched.
