A tech company apologized after a Bay Area job posting appeared on LinkedIn, demanding applicants to be “ non-Asian. ”

Aptude, an IT consultancy, is based in Chicago but has offices around the world. The site states that the company is helping customers “hire IT staff, fill a temporary development position or assemble a project team.” ABC7 first reported that a woman looking for job openings in Bay Area on LinkedIn saw an open position for an Aptude data analyst. The position stated a requirement for “non-Asian” applicants in the description section.

The woman’s boyfriend then posted a screenshot of the listing, with Menlo Park as the location, on social media, where it drew attention. The listing was set for about a week before being withdrawn following the social media response.

“Please note that the job posting was first brought to our attention on Tuesday, after which we immediately took steps to remove it from all channels and investigate how the job posting happened,” Aptude told ABC7 in a statement. “Our investigation found that misunderstood communications were posted by an individual with no potential discriminatory intent. Aptude has taken steps to ensure that such communications do not recur in the future.”

Aptude’s statement does not further explain the “misunderstood communication” that led to the phrase “non-Asian” appearing on the list. A reposted version of the offer is now available.

LinkedIn, which took care of the vacancy, also apologized.
