A married British teacher convicted of having sex with her 15-year-old student has been sentenced to more than six years in prison.
Kandice Barber, 35, of Wendover, Buckinghamshire, was sentenced to six years and two months in prison at Aylesbury Crown Court on Friday, the Scottish Sun reported.
Barber, a mother of three, was convicted in January of inducing or inducing a child to engage in sexual activity for having sex with the teen in a field, but was found not guilty of two separate counts of the same charge.
She was arrested in March 2020, four months after the principal of the Princes Risborough School saw an explicit photo of her being shared in high school, about 40 miles northwest of London.
Jurors at Barber’s trial heard testimony that she began messaging the teen in 2018 after taking his phone number at a school sports day event.
The couple’s messages quickly became “sexual,” and Barber sent the boy topless photos of herself on Snapchat. She later picked up the 15-year-old to have sex with him in a remote field.
Barber also sent the boy lewd text messages, including some that she taught him in class.
“You can’t make me blush when I’m teaching now, poker face,” a message said.
A classmate of the teenager said he also saw a message from Barber that read, “Do you prefer breasts or butt?”
The teenage student also shared with a friend a shower selfie that Barber had sent him, as well as another photo of her leaning over in a bed.
Barber’s husband, meanwhile, had backed up his wife in court, telling jurors that their marriage was as “strong” as ever.
But an ex-boyfriend of Barber’s said he had to end their relationship because of her insatiable sex drive, the Scottish Sun reported.
“When it came to sex, she was just unbelievably frisky and that got her in all these troubles,” said Barber’s ex. “We’d drive somewhere, and she’d say, ‘Stop, I’m feeling horny. It just got too much for me.’
As part of her sentence, Barber must spend the rest of her life keeping the police informed of her address and not working with children and vulnerable adults, the Evening Standard reports.
“I have no doubt that you have acted in a gross breach of trust,” a judge told Barber. “You took advantage of a child you nursed and nurtured him for your own sexual satisfaction.”
