T-Mobile would love to get you on board the 5G train. As part of its latest Un-carrier initiative, the company announced customers can upgrade their smartphones to 5G phone for free offering a $ 60 internet plan, and promising unlimited data for everyone.

The courier telegraphed it had a few big 5G plans in the works earlier in March. That’s because, despite all their investments in 5G, most people haven’t experienced it themselves. Right now, few people have 5G compatible phones, and those who do may not have the right data plan.

For starters, T-Mobile says that starting April 18, new and existing customers can trade in any mobile phone and get one Samsung Galaxy A32 5G phone for free. And they really mean each mobile phone, as long as it is in working order (e.g. no cracked screens, water damage, etc.). That includes flip phones, Sidekicks, Razrs, BlackBerrys, you name it. iPhone users can also participate, but with some more restrictions. Those with iPhone 11 models can get an iPhone 12. If you have an iPhone 7 through X, you can get the iPhone 12 for half. Meanwhile, older iPhones, including the original, can get in half of an iPhone 12 M.this.

The fine print for both promos is that you are locked into account credits for 24 months and you still have to pay the sales tax. (If you leave before the 24 months are up, you’ll have to pay the remainder.) While you can upgrade to the Galaxy A32 for the remainder of 2021, the iPhone promo has an end date of May 1.

The second part Of this push, T-Mobile will upgrade existing customers (including all former Sprint users) with postpaid plans to an unlimited free one. Verizon and AT&T customers on a limited data plan can also switch to an unlimited T-Mobile plan for a rate that is “the same or better” than what they are currently paying.

To top it all off, the carrier is launching its 5G internet subscription at home for $ 60 a month with Autopay. T-Mobile says customers can expect speeds of up to 100 Mbps, and that all eligible households will achieve average download speeds of at least 50 Mbps. The service has no data limits, no additional taxes or equipment costs, and no contracts. T-Mobile sends a 4G / 5G gateway to customers, who can then install everything themselves.

Again, there are some caveats. First, you must live in an eligible area, although T-Mobile says more than 30 million households are eligible at launch, with 10 million of those rural households. You can check if your area is eligible hereIt’s also limited by network capacity, which T-Mobile says is “constantly increasing,” but is something you may want to keep in mind if you live in a densely populated area. T-Mobile also noted that access may be limited at launch due to global supply chain issues affecting Wi-Fi gateway provision.

At the moment, T-Mobile is in the lead in its nationwide 5G coverage, thanks in part to the fact that it has more mid-band spectrum than the other major providers. The problem is alone 10 million of the accounts from which his subscriber base are on T-Mobile’s 5G network, even if the carrier has a a total of 102 million subscribers and can cover 280 millionIf it wants to maintain its lead over 5G, T-Mobile will need more users to upgrade both their phones and data plans.ence this huge push. Frankly, it’s a smart move.
