T Eric Fisher, Chiefs absent only in practice; five buccaneers don’t train

Nine Kansas City Chiefs players appeared in the first injury report sent to the NFL, prior to the Super Bowl LV to be played against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on February 7.

Only left tackle Eric Fisher, who suffered a broken Achilles heel in the AFC Championship Game, was listed as “not practicing,” despite the Chiefs not formally training on the field on Wednesday and only they had meetings to plan the meeting.

The rest of the Chiefs players were practically labeled as “limited” due to physical discomfort: corner backs Rashad Fenton (foot) and L’Jarius Sneed (concussion); offensive linemen Mike Remmers (groin) and Andrew Wylie (ankle); linebacker Willie Gay Jr. (only); catcher Sammy Watkins (calf) and running backs Clyde Edwards-Helaire (ankle and hip) and Le’Veon Bell (knee).

According to the Chiefs report, quarterback Patrick Mahomes has now recovered from his thumb injury and is ready to train without restrictions.

For their part, the Buccaneers included linebackers Lavonte David (hamstring) and Jason Pierre-Paul in their report; protections Jordan Whitehead (shoulder and knee) and Antoine Winfield Jr. (ankle) and receiver Antonio Brown (knee), who indicated they were not good for training.

With limited participation, receiver Mike Evans (knee) and defensive lineman Vita Vea (ankle) were selected. Catcher Chris Godwin did not train for hip and thigh discomfort.

The resting Chiefs and Buccaneers will start field training next Thursday.

Soon
This will be the fourteenth time that two teams that have met in the same regular season play in the Super Bowl. In Week 12, the Chiefs beat the Buccaneers 27-24.

Of the previous 13 times, the team that won the regular season also won the NFL Championship.
