Nintendo would end small developers gaming the Switch eShop charts with dirt cheap deals by setting a price cap.
This information comes from SMG Studios via Reddit. A short response message highlights how a 99 cent sale is at stake Death squared would be the “lowest price” ever on the Nintendo Switch, as “new rules” in the Switch eShop now apparently prevent developers from paying prices for games Below $ 1.99 USD. This obviously excludes free-to-play titles.
“This is the lowest price it will ever be. New rules on the eShope mean no game can get below $ 1.99 and this is 99c because I already planned this sale in August! Haha, so I got it. system reports! “
While Death Squared is no longer for sale, a quick look at the Switch eShop reveals that there are still some games available for under $ 1.99 (99 cents, to be exact) – they include titles like Plague Road, HoPiKo, Change of knight 2 and Ant-Gravity: Tiny’s Adventure.
Perhaps the developers of these titles also held back sales long before the new rules took effect.
According to a story on Polygon, Nintendo recently discontinued games that cost a penny to make the Switch eShop’s “bestsellers” list. There is also apparently a rule in place that prevents developers from offering a 100% discount if a user already owns a game from their catalog.
